The Jerry Kill is about to officially begin on the field this Saturday. There has been a slow-building buzz around the man who is coaching our Maroon and Gold without a contract in place. It hasn’t been hype so much as the quiet confidence that he brings. Brewster brought a constant hype onto campus and it became clear that he brought very little beyond that. Kill, on the other hand, has instilled a humble confidence into the program. Kill believes he will succeed and won’t accept anything less. This has permeated throughout the rest of the coaches and the team. It is now resonating with the Gophers fan base. Fans don’t expect big things in 2011, but fans are beginning to carry a quiet confidence for the future. Kill’s ability to work tirelessly and remain confident in his abilities has had so much of an effect that national writers are beginning to take notice and predicting a win next Saturday against USC.
TC Huddle can’t go so far as to predict a win, but we will say this. USC is overrated and over-hyped this year. Brewster didn’t leave the cupboard completely bare for us in 2011 and Kill has the team believing in themselves. Don’t be surprised if the Gophers remain in the game next week into the third and fourth quarters. That could make for an exciting home opening weekend on September 10th, even if some believe we have the worst home-field advantage in the Big Ten. Let the Jerry Kill era officially begin.
