MVP–Peterson or Manning?

Who do you have for NFL MVP? Peyton Manning or Adrian Peterson? (Photo Courtesy of espn.go.com)

Recently on ESPN, Jaws, Merril Hoge and Herm Edwards took on a debate we’ll be hearing countless times over the course of the next few weeks: Who is the MVP this season–Adrian Peterson or Peyton Manning?

Jaws’ position is that the Vikings are only a playoff contender, but the Broncos are a Super Bowl contender, and this is all because of Peyton Manning. (Herm Edwards’ response to Jaws believing the Denver Broncos have a chance to win the Super Bowl is a classic Edwards response.)

We tend to agree with Hoge’s response in that “there is zero correlation for MVP and Super Bowl.” We also agree with Hoge that AP is the MVP so far this season, but that shouldn’t come as surprise to any of our readers, since we’re such Vikings homers.

It looks like ESPN’s audience agrees as well, as their gimmicky live viewer poll shows at the end of the clip. Take a look yourself.

This certainly won’t be the last we hear about this debate. ESPN’s Kevin Seifert live tweeted a debate on the issue just the other day. We’ll hear plenty more in the coming weeks. It’s exciting to have a playoff hopeful and MVP candidate in Minnesota again. We’ll be keeping our eyes on 2,000 yards and Eric Dickerson’s all-time NFL rushing record of 2,105 yards.
