Last night’s 70-57 win over North Dakota State propelled Minnesota to 11-1 and 7-0 at home. The 13th ranked Gophers look to be skyrocketing to the top ten as they head into the Big Ten season. They have one non conference game left against 4-8 Lafayette, then it’s time for the real games beginning with #19 Michigan State at home on December 31st. As the Gophers look poised to grab a spot in the top ten national rankings, last night they grabbed two spots in Sports Center’s Top 10 plays.

In a game where Rodney Williams led the team with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals, Trevor Mbakwe showed glimpses of his old self with 14 points and 18 rebounds in 21 minutes. While the basketball purists will point to those rebounds and steals, the basketball fans enjoyed two highlight reel dunks from both Williams and Mbakwe.

The first was a spectacular 360 that Williams threw down in the open court after a steal. You can watch it below at about the 20-second point of the video. This dunk was #1 on Sports Center last night. The second dunk was a beautiful tip-dunk from Mbakwe. At about the 35-second point of the video, you’ll see Mbakwe fly through the lane, grab one of his 18 rebounds, and flush the ball in one fluid moment. This play was #3 on Sports Center last night. Pretty darn impressive for our Maroon & Gold.

Enjoy those for awhile. Minnesota is off for ten days now while the team focuses on finals. Up next is Lafayette on December 22nd and then Michigan St. on New Year’s Eve. Minnesota hats off to thee…
