It’s no secret that Chris Kluwe is outspoken. In an interview TCH had with Kluwe right before the season began,  it was eminently clear that he believes he has a greater purpose than simply punting footballs. He recognizes the platform he’s been given as a football player and believes it’s his duty to use it responsibly for the greater good.

Some have argued that Kluwe’s constant ability to find himself in the middle of some controversy has left the patience of the Vikings organziation wearing thin. ESPN’s Kevin Seifert had this to say recently: “It wouldn’t be at all surprising…to see Kluwe go the way of place-kicker Ryan Longwell a year ago. You can scream and yell all you want about whether that’s fair or vindictive or silly or anything else. But sometimes that’s how it goes in professional sports.”

Regardless of your take on Chris Kluwe, he’s back at it again. This time, he showed up on The Colbert Report.

The interview begins with Colbert’s typical tomfoolery and Kluwe trying his damnedest to keep up. The opening bit is capped off when Kluwe goes along with a joke on how the Packers are the real losers because they’re practicing in the cold right now and Kluwe doesn’t have to work in the morning. Pretty sure that won’t sit well with too many Vikings fans.

The interview takes a turn when Colbert becomes more serious and brings up Kluwe’s stance on gay marriage. Not much of what Kluwe and Colbert discuss is new. If you’ve heard any of Kluwe’s positions that have been posted frequently in editorials, then you’ve heard this one. Colbert adds his usual humorous spin, however, making for an enjoyable interview.
