Brothers, sisters and childhood friends sharing our love for Minnesota Sports.We all grew up loving and playing sports in Minnesota. Basketball hoops littered all of our childhood driveways. Three of us had an ice hockey rink covering our backyard for years throughout the winter. (That is, until one spring the melting ice flooded into our neighbors basement.) We grew up with backyards known in the neighborhood as Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.
In our younger days, we played high school sports for small metro area schools, compiling over 7,000 points in basketball, 300 RBI in baseball, 200 goals and assists in soccer, and even some PeeWee touchdown runs. Some of us went on to be All-Conference and All-American DIII basketball players. Others of us became nerds and went into Engineering, Law, English, Teaching and the Media.
We grew up engrossed in sports and we grew up loving sports right here in Minnesota. Just like you. We know the joys and heartbreaks of these teams and we love to follow their every move. Minnesota sports have always been our passion and our escape.
We grew up with the Birks, including former Viking All-Pro center Matt Birk. We followed Minnesota product and MLB Hall of Famer Paul Molitor closely because we knew his sibling and nieces well. In fact, we used the sporting equipment he didn’t want and his “hand-me-downs.” We were in baseball camp with Joe Mauer, had photos in the local paper with Dave Winfield, sat in Ron Coomer’s seats, worked for the Gophers marketing team, hit a three over NCAA Champion Khalid El-Amin, learned from Al Newman as our first base coach in a little league game, spent four priceless hours chatting with Harmon Killebrew while he carefully signed 500 baseballs, boasted countless signatures from Gopher star Kevin Lynch, shot hoops in the driveway with U.S. National Team and World Cup star Tony Sanneh, had our foot run over by Kirby Puckett’s convertible in the 1991 World Series parade, and were shown on ESPN on NBA draft day being dunked on by NBA Champion Devean George.
We’re just regular old Minnesota sports junkies. We have Minnesota pride like all of you. We have even smoked cigars with former Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman and got in a boyhood playground scuffle with Hollywood Star Josh Hartnett. (Not sports related, but if you stick around long enough, you may actually hear the latter story.)
When it’s all said and done, we’re just like you—Minnesota products with Minnesota passion. We grew up loving sports and devoted to Minnesota. We’re constantly arguing and discussing the most recent game. So we decided, why not make our trivial rants public? Welcome to TC Huddle.
