Goldy Wins Gold in National Mascot Competition

Goldy Wins Gold in National Mascot Competition

  For the second time in three years Goldy has won the national title at the Mascot Competition. This is beginning to be quite a gold standard for mascots here in Minnesota, (pun sadly intended). Held in Orlando last weekend, Goldy faced off against a number of other national mascots, including a few others from our Big Ten rivals. Wisconsin’s Bucky Badger placed third in the competition. Michigan State’s Sparty placed sixth. Ohio State’s Brutus Buckeye landed in the seventh spot. The the poor sap Herky the Hawk from Iowa placed eight. The Minnesota Golden Gophers finished below .500 this year for sixth time in seven seasons. The opinions from this year vary more than those on the hill regarding the fiscal cliff. The glass-half-full group point to the fact that we doubled our win total from last year to six and won Big Ten games against Purdue and Illinois. Jerry Kill’s struggle with seizures have been well documented. In 14 home games that he has coached at TCF Bank Stadium, Kill has suffered a seizure in three of them. His most recent bout at halftime of the Michigan State game last week kept him from the sideline for the rest of the game.
