One of my favorite movies as a kid was the Disney classic, Old Yeller. Set in post-Civil War Texas, Old Yeller is basically a movie about a young boy and his friendship with a lovable Labrador retriever. While the majority of the plot centers around the boy and his family, the film dabbles in a little bit of everything: the tomfoolerous prepubescent antics of the boy’s younger brother, wild boar hunting, bear attacks, rabid cows, and, of course, Yeller himself…the best doggone dog in the West.
